The Furry and Fishy

Taika Bacardi White

After moving in with B I really missed the cats I'd grown up with. I knew it would have been unfair to move them from their large house with lots of outdoor room to and apartment - but I missed them all the same. So in early 2007 we met "Sugar" through a pet adoption program that went through my work. Within two days we were in love and she came home at the end of the week.

We renamed her "Taika" which means "Peace" in Lithuanian (and also "Great Reform" in Japanese I later found out) and Bacardi White (our drink of choice at the time). She was already about 1 or 2 years old and had produced at least one litter of kittens (polydactyl, fluffy white things - sooo cute!).

Taika has been the most wonderful pet and family member. She plays fetch, "talks" - sometimes too much, follows us around the house, tolerates WAY more from babies than I ever would as a cat and loves company so much she'd rather take a ferry ride than have a cat-sitter for a week. She's like a dog in a cat body. In fact, she even likes dogs - and is always excited when my parents visit with their dog.

Last but not least, is Kaeda's first pet - Duke the Betta fish (or Siamese fighting fish) who I thought also deserved to be mentioned... even if he doesn't do much else but eat and fight his reflection.
