The Wild Things

Kaeda Alanna Lea
Born January 3 2008

Kaeda is our wild child. She is passionate about animals and often acts like one (sometimes it's cute sometimes it's not). She's creative and imaginative, so much so that it can be hard to pull her out of her pretend play. Kaeda is what my mom calls "a strong-willed child aka you as a child". She is very clear about what she wants and how she wants to do it, this can of course be frustrating. However, she is also very empathetic and friendly. She's quick to chat up old ladies and befriend children - she loves babies. I'm thankful that while we have to battle with her independant streak, she is great with sharing and playing with others.

Kaeda loves her family - especially her "big sister" cat, Taika, and her little sister Bowynn.

The name Kaeda came to me when I was about 6 months pregnant. I was in bed thinking of names and simply put a 'K' in front of the name Ada - it was like I heard a cosmic "click" and that was when I really believed I was having a girl and that her name would be Kaeda. 'Alanna' comes from a series of novels written by an author and my idol, Tamora Pierce. Lastly, Lea (pronounced Lay-ah), is a Hawaiian native name she was given shortly after birth in a family naming ceremony done for the Nahanee family gathering.

Bowynn Neila Allyn
Born November 22nd 2010

The second time around was very different - from the cravings, to the amazing home birth, cloth diapers, tummy sleeping instead of back and less co-sleeping. Bowynn was chubby where Kaeda was lean and squeaky where Kaeda was loud. Kaeda walked at 9 months and Bo at 11.

My little monkey (who gets called Bo-bo too often) is cheerful, funny and absolutely adores her big sister (except when Kaeda's taking her toys). She's just at the age now where she's really starting to explore and is so much fun to be around. Also, she's a snuggler, which is always so nice!

Before she was even conceived we decided on the name Bowen. If we had a girl the spelling would be Bowynn. Depending on where you look, Bowen is Welsh or Irish (which is part each of our heritages respectively) and means any of; lamb, well-born, noble, young one, youthful, son of owen, son of the young one. Not that any of that really mattered - we just liked the name. Her middle names come from her two grandma's (Neila & Allyn).

Interesting fact: Bowynn's cloth diapers are made by a small company on Bowen Island, BC!
